Data center High Tech Campus

Built for the future

KPN has built the greenest data center in the Netherlands. It uses 100% sustainably generated power. And it even generates energy: it heats the surrounding buildings. The data center itself is made from materials that can be reused in the future.

We have ten data centers throughout the Netherlands. This is where we store our customers’ data and run their software. KPN believes that the data centers should be reliable and sustainable. That’s why we built the greenest data center in the Netherlands at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. This data center not only meets the highest technological and legal requirements, it is also CO₂ negative. With this innovative data center, KPN is demonstrating that sustainability and technology go hand in hand.

CO₂ negative

Our new data center uses 100 percent sustainably generated green energy. We don’t discard the surplus heat from our data center, instead we divert it to nearby buildings, which consequently require less energy. This means the data center is not CO₂ neutral, it's CO₂ negative.

The materials used are sustainable too. We adhered to the cradle-to-cradle principle for the design and construction of the data center. This means that the components are reusable. When this data center eventually reaches the end of its lifespan, the materials can have a second life and be used for other purposes.

Fault-free

The greenest data center is also the most reliable in the Netherlands. Here we manage our customers’ servers and data in a secure, stable environment. Because our customers want the certainty that they can always access their data and programs. One of the most important conditions for this is that the power supply to the servers never fails. Our data center in Eindhoven provides this assurance. It is the first data center in the Netherlands to receive Tier IV certification: the highest possible guarantee that power for our servers will never fail.
